American History Tours, LLC is specifically geared for those who want to visit important historical sites in the United States. It is oriented toward the American Revolution, Southwest U.S. history, presidential history, and Civil War history. While there will be proposed tours with a specific itinerary, American History Tours will also strive to tailor tours to specific interests and lengths. Other than getting yourself to a starting location, Doug will do all the planning and conduct the tour—no planning hassles for any of our travelers. Depending on the tour, there may also be step-on guides who are specifically versed in detailed topics. Whether you are already a history expert or are just starting to learn and enjoy American History, the tour will be a relaxing and enjoyable experience, all the while getting to see and learn American history. In addition to the historical sightseeing, there will be enjoyable dining experiences, and there will never be more than 10 people on any one tour.
About Us
Doug McCormick was born in Nebraska and moved to Colorado with his family when he was still in elementary school. He graduated from Arapahoe High School in Littleton, CO, and then attended the University of Northern Colorado (UNC). After graduating from UNC in 1977 he spent 21 years in the Air Force, mostly in the Space Operations career field, retiring in 1998. After retiring, he moved to Colorado Springs and was a defense contractor supporting Air Force Space Command for over 14 years. His last assignment in the Air Force was in the Pentagon and he and his family resided in northern Virginia where he got to see many historical sites. Getting to see these sites first hand got him interested in U.S. history, and historical sight-seeing has become a labor of love for him. His objective now is to lead tour groups, especially tours that emphasize American history. Doug is a graduate of the International Guide Academy, Denver, CO.
